Quick background on my computer:

Dell XPS Studio
i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
8 GB RAM
XFX Radeon 6870 @ 1GB
600W power unit

Last time I did an upgrade, it was about a year and a half ago when I installed the 6870 and the 600W power unit. Everything has worked well since that time, but I am looking to upgrade again. I got a EVGA GTX 680 @ 4GB and installed it last night. The reason I got this card is because I play multiple clients/accounts on Eve Online and my 6870 struggles to keep reasonable FPS on high graphics settings when more than one client is running.

Installation of the GTX 680 went fine. Only trick was the power cords as I barely had enough clearance in the case to get those hooked into the video card. After updating the driving and setting the resolution, everything seemed to be working well ing Windows 7. The issues started when I started to play Eve. The backgrund of the character selection screen was this odd color of light green instead of black. Once I got into the game, there was this red and green haze on the screen that was just awful looking. I could barely see my ship! Tried to reboot again and that didn't help at all. I reinstalled the 6870 and the issue went away. No other issues since I reinstalled the 6870.

So I am thnking either I got a bad GTX 680 or I have something messed up with the settings. My questions are as follows:

1) Has anyone ever seen the issue I described on my GTX 680 before? Do you think this is just a bad card?

2) My first thought is to RMA this back to Newegg for a refund and then get a completely different card. I am indifferent if it is a Radeon or a GTX. Based on me having a 6870, which card would give me the best boost in performance for my money?

As soon as I read this thread I thought, "RMA" As others have said it could be drivers or maybe your card isnt in the slot all the way, be sure to try re seating. If no drivers work and re seating doesnt help RMA.

Task list:

Uninstall any graphics drivers
uninstall any graphics software
reboot
download and install latest drivers for your GFX
download install software for your GFX
reboot
go into BIOS and ensure that your DISCRETE GFX is selected in settings
reboot
If necessary run the repair option on your EVE client
problem solved.

1. Sounds like an artifact, is the card factory OC'd at all (or have you overclocked it yourself?). Download a program called MSI Afterburner, and try lowering the Core and Memory clock by 25Mhz and the Power Limiter to max, see if that makes a difference.

2. Generally, the best graphics card to get is the one you can afford, unless you are limited by some other aspect of the rig. Whats your budget, I assume ~$400 if your RMA'ing the 680. For that amount, a HD7970 or GTX770 would do fine.

Not necessarily, he is playing EVE with multiple clients so I have done somethign like this in the past running some 4 clients simultaneously across three screens. The 680 should be a good enough choice and his hardware should be able to support everything OK.

Come to think of it, I did not uninstall the old drivers when I upgraded. So I will uninstall boith set of drivers.. reinstall the card and then install the newest version of the GTX drivers to see if that does the trick. Will let you know the outcome tonight!

Will clease the drivers tonight and start the installation process over again. MY PSU is a CORSAIR Gaming Series GS600 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply. So I don't think its a cheapo. I know eventually I will need to upgrade that too but it meets the minimum requirements for the GTX 680

Now that's the best idea yet. GTX680 is outdated and overpriced and POWER HUNGRY and hot. I bet that 680 is really putting the heat on that Corsair 600w.

Thanks again for your suggestions. Unfortuntely, when I tried to uninstall and then reload everything, the same issue continued in Eve. No other issues observed outside of Eve. I uninstalled the Radeon drivers and GTX drivers.. reinstalled the GTX and installed the latest GTX drivers. I even uninstalled Eve and reinstalled that. Same exact issue.. weird green and red hazy coloring. But there is no issue with coloring in the menus in Eve, just the main graphics of the game. I know someone suggested looking at my BIOS and making sure the card is selected but I am not 100% sure how to do this. Any other suggestions or should I just RMA this thing for a 770 or 7950?

Ya I dont think the seating is the issue as this is the 2nd time I have installed the card. I would also think if seating was an issue that I'd be seeing issues outside of the game as well. I am heavly leaning towards RMA.

Going ahead and RMAing this and the memory I got too. After doing some more research, I am chalking this up as a compatibility issue with my motherboard. I am going to look to build a new system in the near future. Thanks again everyone!

Yeah, it's not a incompatability with the board, I can tell you that much. How did you uninstall the drivers? Did you use Driversweeper or something? I would bet $100 you still have AMD drivers on your system.
