My ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 just arrived the other day. I bought this over the ASRock 970DE3/U3S3 because it was newer. The only difference I can see is the northbridge. My question is what does that mean? Is the 980 a better chipset than the 970? Or does it make any difference at all?

Also because this is a newer board, would the BIOS need to be updated to run an FS-4100?

Thanks

It should support the fx4100 out of the box. The main difference that I noticed looking on ASRock's website is that the 980DE/U3S3 seems to be able to support 125w fx processors like the fx-6350, 8320, or 8350, while the 970DE3/U3S3 is only able to handle 95w fx processors (something about managing p states).
