I was just wondering if the HX850 would be enough for my friend's rig.

My friend is getting either the 3770k w/ Sabertooth Z77 if it restocks at microcenter or the 4770k w/ Extreme4 Z87. He is also getting 3 660 Ti's in SLI mode and he is only getting 1 Hard Drive.

More about : 850w psu

Yeah it's enough... I've heard (read) of people doing a 3-SLI 660ti with a 650W (mind you, I don't recommend it, but it apparently has been done). 850W should be fine, especially if it's from a decent manufacturer (like Corsair).

3-Way Tri-SLI on an ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 or ASRock Z87 Extreme4? I don't think so.

That motherboard only supports two NVIDIA single GPU graphics cards in 2-way SLI mode or two NVIDIA dual GPU graphics cards in Quad SLI mode.
