I've been doing some research before i take the plunge and doing the upgrade but i figured i'd ask here before i do. To get some input from others. The i7 950 is fine for what i do now but the reason why i would want to upgrade is cause i think my motherboard sucks lol. I have a Asus P6X58D-E motherboard. From what i've seen people say is that the SATA 6Gb on this board is really bad. I think it's Marvell 9128. I have a OCZ Agility 4 and my Max read speeds on it is around 180Mb's. I think it's supposed to get upwards near 400.... Microcenter has a deal going on right now and i can get the i7 4770k and a Asus Z87-A for about $420 with tax. So basically what i'm asking is would anyone else make the switch if it was them? Sorry for rambling lol

i have lga 1366 mobo too and i connect my ssd in the sata 3gb because i am getting better performance in that port.. try to connect your ssd in a sata 3gb an see if there is any improvment. i ll not spend 420 dollars just for that reason.. since you are happy with the performance of your cpu i ll suggest you to stay with your current system.

I have a very similar system to you gocubs with the same motherboard and I have been thinking about upgrading but have decided to stick with my system until next gen if I can or further if possible. Other than the poor sata6gb (due to a x1 pci-e lane) which was the bane of most of the x58 boards the actual setup itself is still a strong one. I was fortunate that I managed to pick up a LSI sata6gb raid card second hand quite cheap and that gives me much better performance although I do not use the raid functionality but these cards are normally quite expensive and probably not worth it when the difference in real user speeds between that and the onboard intel sata3gb are negligible.

Stick with what you have as you mentioned you are happy and remember when you do upgrade you will be able to move that agility 4 over to your new system.

Thanks! That's what i was thinking. I've just been going back and forth to buy then not buy. But i think i've decided that i'll just stick with what i have now and wait till next gen or even maybe the gen after that. Cause i was just gonna get those two upgrades.... if i wait a year or two then i could just go all out and buy everything new and build a new monster. I just got a 7950 2 months ago so i wouldn't have wanted to get a new card now anyways. But come a year or two from now i probably will want to. I'll just take that money i was gonna use and put it towards a new Macbook. I'm really hoping the retina gets the Haswell monday cause i really don't wanna wait a few months to get one. I wanna buy a new toy now! Haha
