Hey All Thanks for Stopping by. Been having some isues off and on with my drive that has my Windows 7 on it. Every so ofen my system would freeze whch is no biggie per se' but when I boot the machine back up it tries an fails to run a scan disk with an error message. Upon continuing to boot it woulboot up but would hesitate to get into windows and i was stuck in a loop of trying to fix the startup.

Okay fast forwar a few weeks and things are okay, system was fine i reimaged my hard drive and again the system froze just like before. Ran thru the same exact steps couldn't run the repair nor coud i even run a system restore. I just reloaded windows for a 3rd time and this time it ran the check disk and the first time around it would run the repair disk fully, got an error message about an install package prevented the system from running the repair disk....REBOOTED and it finally ran, checked a bunch of stuff, deleted a bunch of stuff, it booted into windows fine....Do i even bother reloading my apps or spring for a new drive? I feel as though the drive is gonna fail again....Thoughts?

running check disk once after a bad shutdown is one thing, but i find that if windows does a check disk on bootup constantly that it's often a bad drive. i'd say better safe than sorry - get a new one.

wouldn't hurt to do a full virus & malware scan too, on the off chance that's all it is.

You should see errors in the Event Viewer error reporting app. See if you have some disk errors in the list, they should be filling the list if the drive is bad. Also, you could use a disk diagnostic app to view the SMART report on the drive. It will tell you the drive is about to see Elizabeth, after the Big One.

Okay....First off I downloaed the Western Digital diagnostics tool and cant run it in Windows....So i tried to run it in safemode only the system froze so I'm at a loss....I don't notice any noises like the drive's dying so I dunno.....This system is pretty old that I am writing on right now....I may have to rebuild a new machine or just buy a new one....Any other ideas?

As for now if you could get into windows than backup your valuable things and do a "Clean Install" of windows. See how it works.

Do you have a second system available to access (home/work/friends) if so than make this drive a second drive(non bootable) and try to recover your data. If this procedure fails than try the link.

Here is a link of data recovery soft: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

To be very honest there is no way to tell the drive is faulty or not since you can't access it. It seems like your windows got corrupted not the drive but as I said it's hard to tell from a distance. Good Luck.

So managed to borrow some drive checking software called "Hard Disk Sentinel". Ran a lengthy test and everything passed...So can someone tell me if possible why my system was giving me issues?

I think it's the hard drive. Upon the system crashing yet again last night, upon check disk it was running a fix for security files. This ran for like an hour or so. Then the system rebooted. All was fine til I started using it....Then BSOD. Now I can't even get back into Windows at all. I found a 1TB drive from Bestbuy for $69 which is a Seagate 7200RPM. I appreciate all the feedback I will use that data recovery tool someone suggested above to grab all of my stuff off the drive.

Wish me luck
