So basically, I recently found a Seagate Barracude 500GB just laying about, and I am very soon building my own PC. So after finding it, a thought came to my mind that I can save a good $50 if this thing is working, but I don't know if it is.

Basically what I want to know is, how do I know if the hard drive is working without plugging it into my motherboard. When I spin the hard drive I can hear noises

+1 USAFRet,

If you don't have any adapter like that, you'll need to plug it in the computer to know.

If their is a drive with windows already installed, you can plug it in, boot in windows and look at the hard drive from there.

Great for testing random drives.
