Ripjaws X or Sniper?

Solution
I stand corrected on the height, but not the voltage. I've got four brand new Sniper sticks that are only 1.25V.

i own the Sniper 2133mhz (2 kit of that exact same model) and they overclock well, 2240 CL10 @ 1.65V with the controller at stock 1.05V so no risk on the CPU side (the XMP set 1.05V even at 1.6V so totally safe)

the heatspreader fit under a Noctua NHU12P SE2 (same tower size as the D14 but only 1) so they'll fit everywhere or almost unlike the Ripjaw... Anyway they don't heat at all even at 1.65V so the heatspreader don't really offer more on the ripjaws...

Hello:hello:

Well, there are various MSI GD45 motherboards with different chipsets so unless I know the exact model number I wouldn't confirm it. Until now I have stumbled upon 3 models which all use the term "GD45" namely X79A-GD45, P55M-GD45, X58A-GD45. I think one of this might be your motherboard. The above memory kits (both sniper and RipJaws X) is compatible only with X79A-GD45 motherboard according to GSkill support. I do not believe the P55M and X58A motherboards support this memory as the motherboard is not listed in "Qualified Motherboard list" so is the Chipset. Supported Chipsets are Intel Z77 / Z75 / X79 / Z68 / P67.

So I would be cautious about this memory, or perhaps you could you go with speed lower than this one maybe 1866MHz but you can decide that. Perhaps with the right motherboard model number you could confirm that.

Click here for GSkill specs for Sniper series.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

The sniper isn't lower voltage and they are the same height. Both listed as 40mm height.

Seriously?:heink: I do not think you noticed but that the links are indeed different. You can check the mfg part number mentioned in the pages (eg. F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL), also you can find the product series. Yeah, it does look similar:foudtag: when comes down to the specifications. Maybe you might want to a look once more, just saying.:spamafote:

I guess since there is no difference in the sniper and Ripjaws X besides its looks, i will get ripjaws because they will look better with the mobo,
@Onus What do you think about the differences in the bottoms of the CM EVO and Xig

Bottoms? They seem smooth enough. I have no CM's for comparison; I am using Gaias on my systems. I won't buy ANY CM product (regardless of quality) because the company is guilty of willful consumer fraud on some of its products. I will not support dishonesty; fortunately they have a competitor in this market (the Gaia) which offers essentially similar performance for a significantly lower price ($20 vs. $30-$35 for the CM).

Look at your post's bbcode if you need to see it easier.

Could you link to this "willful consumer fraud," not that I doubt you, I would just like to know what exactly it is. Though not many businesses don't have some skeletons in their closets.

I think the last question was aimed at me. Reluctantly, I'll answer it, because it's getting off-topic in a post that started out about memory. If you have more questions, a new thread or PM would be appropriate. Anyway...
In reviews of unrelated products (in this case, many of their PSUs), CM was found to be dishonest. Many companies exaggerate, or offer best-case scenarios that are unrealistic at best, but claiming protection circuits that are in fact missing is an outright lie. Here are some sample links:
LL=Liar Label, MC=Missing Circuits

1. LL: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-Extreme-2-475-W-Power-Supply-Review/1550/11
2. MC: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-Elite-Power-350-W-Power-Supply-Review/1184/9
3. LL AND MC: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-Elite-Power-460-W-Power-Supply-Review/1005/9
4. LL: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-eXtreme-Power-Plus-600-W-Power-Supply-Review/1034/9
5. LL: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-eXtreme-Power-Plus-550-W-Power-Supply-Review/969/9

...I think that's enough. These aren't dings for poor quality, but for dishonesty. Many others get dinged for quality; my favorite is probably the remark in HardOCP's review of the GX-650 calling it a "polished turd in a box."
So anyway, there you have it; a company which should not be supported, regardless of the quality of its other products. And get this, it gets worse. Having been called on it, they're going to pull them from the North American market and foist them off elsewhere. This per Gabriel Torres: "I had a meeting with them during Computex and, according to them, they are removing all power supplies with fake wattage from the North American market (and dumping them somewhere else)."
Ok, /rant.

If going with 2133 either of the sets you mentioned - might want to look at CL9 sets - these are CL11 - big difference performance wise (Lower CAS (CL) = higher performance). Also might want to look at the Tridents, GSkill's newest line which is aimed at the IB and Haswell rigs

If looking for specs the Tridents are here:

http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=511

they stand a little higher 2.13 inches vs the RJ X and Snipers at 1.58.....but....

the upper fin is removable, there is a screw at either end of the stick, remove those and the fin slides right off, as well as lowering the profile to appr 1.54 in height...Have seen a few remove the fin and paint to match other components and replace, or leave off and just use as low profile sticks...They still run rather cool, even without the fins

Sure you do, the Ripjaws X and the Snipers mentioned are 2133/CL11 these are 2400/CL10 which equates (performance wise) to roughly 2133/CL9 (and I've had them to 2133/CL8). You also pick up (theoretically) appr up to 2,200 MB of bandwidth per second. Granted while it's not a ton performance wise, for those into gaming and high end systems, you grab all the performance you can from wherever you can.
