I'm building a gaming computer and I plan to overclock. I'll probably go with a H100i cooler. I've heard the i5 processor is better than an i7 for gaming because games don't make use of hyperthreading. My only question is which overclocks better? The i5 or the i7? Or is there a difference? I will be using Haswell on either a Maximus VI Hero or Sabertooth. Thanks in advance.

BTW: Which would be best for overclocking/gaming, the Hero or Sabertooth?
Thanks.

for owning both (3770k in my main rig and 3570k in my HTPC) my perticular I7 clocks higher with the same voltage than the 3570k (HT enabled) all with the same motherboard and ram combo, only the PSU and video cards change...

with 1.35V Vcore the 3570k clock at 4.6ghz (4.7ghz needs 1.375) and the 3770k go to 4.8ghz+ and do 4.9 at 1.36V (but the IMC failed to run 2133mhz ram so that why i'm using 4.8ghz) and the 3770k need 1.28V for 4.6ghz...

PS: you won't see any gain from the 200mhz higher clock anyway so for gaming only, save yourself 100$ and put it in the GPU, your gaming will be better like this...

If you are not on a tight budget than go for the i7 more threads the better in my view, however i5 is more of a gaming oriented chip. Most keep their CPU for quite a few years a lot longer than the GPU in a lot of cases, having more threads can only be useful.

Do you think games will start taking advantage of hyperthreading? I'm not going to be doing anything like video editing or anything like that. Is the upgrade to an i7 worth $100 or would I be better off upgrading my graphics card or something else?
