Do you have a second monitor that supports the resolution you set it to? This is fairly common when switching from one monitor to another if they have different native and/or supported resolutions. If you have another monitor, you can plug that one in, change the res to one your new monitor supports, then switch your smaller one in again. Or is the resolution you changed it to already supported by your smaller monitor? If it is, then this may be a different kind of problem.
