I am thinking of getting either Lenovo Y500 or Y510p. Is Ivy Bridge that much better than Haswell as far as in battery life? I also want to do an clean install of Windows 7 and ditch Windows 8. Y500 have support for Windows 7 drivers but Y510p does not. Y510p have Haswell but Y500 have Ivy Bridge...Which should I get?

Y500 specs - $849.00:
CPU: Ivy Bridge i7 Intel 2.40Ghz Quad-Core
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750M 2GB GDDR5
Storage: 1TB HDD 5400rpm
Memory: 8GB 1600Mhz
Monitor: 1920x1080 LED 15.6" Glossy
Optical Drive Bay: DVD Burner (Dual Layer), I can swap it out for an Blu-ray or 750M SLI bay anytime in the future.
OS: Comes with Windows 8 (x64) but it has Windows 7 Drivers support

Y510p specs - $989.00:
CPU: Haswell i7 Intel 2.40Ghz Quad-Core
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750M 2GB GDDR5
Storage: 1TB HDD 5400rpm
Memory: 8GB 1600Mhz
Monitor: 1920x1080 LED 15.6" Anti-Glare
Optical Drive Bay: DVD Burner (Can change it to SLI or Blu-ray).
OS: Windows 8 (x64) - No Windows 7 Drivers support.

Also, I don't really need a lot of horse power for my gaming laptop, I have a badass gaming desktop for that kind of stuff. I just don't want to make a bad choice and regret it in the future.

From what I have read the Haswell processor has better battery life than Ivy Bridge processor. The following links explain it better than I can.

If it's Windows 7 you want then it appears as though the Y500 is the way to go. You may run into problems installing Windows 7 on the Y510p since Lenovo doesn't offer any Windows 7 drivers.

Yeah, I really like the better battery life but I think the Y500 is the way to go since it is cheaper, has all the same hardware except for an SDD and Haswell CPU. Windows 7 is an must for me since I need to be really productive with my work and simple needs. I will be having a badass desktop for the horsepower anyway. Thanks!

If you decide to go with the Lenovo Y510p i have it and currently have both Windows 8 and Windows 7 working as well as various Linux systems. If you want instructions i can email you a document with the steps i took to get everything working. If you just want Windows 7 its very easy and i'd be happy to help.

Dear ka05th30ry,
please, please, please, help me to install windows 7 on my Lenovo y510p! When installation of windows 7 starts it asks for CD/DVD drivers and I can not skip this step. Thank you very much for your advice. max.aurifer@gmail.com

Hello
I have purchased today the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P (59400122)

www.cyberport.de/?DEEP=1C31-2GG&APID=6

- Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ Prozessor (bis 3,4 GHz), Quad-Core
- 39,6 cm (15") Full HD 16:9 LED Display (matt), Webcam
- 4 GB RAM, 1 TB Festplatte, DVD Brenner
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M Grafik (2048 MB), HDMI, USB 3.0, WLAN-n, BT (etc...)

It is without OS and I am thinking ahead to try to download the needed drivers for it . (I want windows 7 Ultimate - on 64)
I got to the download center from Lenovo support website and I have a small dilemma. After I select as OS: W7, I see more than one driver available.

http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/downloads/default.page?

What is the difference between Bluetooth Driver (Broadcom, Atheros) and Intel Bluetooth Driver for 64-bit Windows? Are there two kinds of parts that I can find in the laptop? Either Intel ...either other?
For Display and Video which one should I download? Intel Video Driver for 64-bit Windows, Intel Wireless Display Driver or Nvidia Video
Driver for 64-bit Windows? The graphic card is Nvidia GT 755m but for W7 I can not find dedicated driver.
For WLAN there are two as well: WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom) and Intel WLAN Driver for 64-bit Windows. Which one is it for my laptop?

Maybe I'm missing some info. Anyway I would appreciate if you could take 10 minutes to try to explain to me how it works.
How can I know which are the drivers for my laptop? Are there any tricks I need to know before I start to try to install W7 on it? I have a Desktop and I did everything by myself, but for the laptop I need someone to help me.

e-mail: tudor.usturica@gmail.com

Thank you and a happy new year!!

Hello
Did you receive some DVDs with drivers when you bought the laptop? Or do you have the drivers on your hdd somewhere?
Can you please upload the drivers somewhere for me? I have bought the same laptop but without OS and I need some drivers. From LENOVO support website I downloaded but there are not ok. I need the original ones like from your laptop.
My configuration is here: www.cyberport.de/?DEEP=1C31-2GG&APID=6

I hope that in the end we can find drivers for W7. But for now I want my laptop to work.
Thank you.

Hey ka05th30ry,

could you please help me out with your pdf-file?
i can't get the NVIDIA drivers running on Win 7 x64 (can't open NVIDIA system control and so the switching between the Intel card and that one is impossible) and the Windows-Explorer runs very slowly (delayed reaction when right-clicking on desktop)

Many Thanks in advance, S.
