Asus Maximus VI Hero questions on specs & release date

Hi I am waiting for the ASUS Maximus VI Hero motherboard to come out. Does anyone know the release date for this motherboard? I plan on getting a new computer in the beginning of July.

Now on the specs, Is the Maximus VI Hero an ATX motherboard? Is there any reason I will want the Maximus VI Extreme instead? I don't think I will ever do SLI, and if I do, I will only have like 2 GPU at the most. Also I will not be doing any water cooling for the motherboard, just the CPU with corsair H100i cooler. I will have an internal card reader, 2 HDDs, 1 SDD, and 2 DVD/Blu-ray burners. I think 8 6Gbs Sata slots is enough. Does this motherboard also have USB 2.0/3.0 on the motherboard for my internal card reader? It has an USB 2.0 pin slot.

  1. It's out already : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-maximusvihero .

As for specs : yes it's an ATX board. And no, unless you plan to get more than 2 VGA for SLi/CF setup and/or want to heavy OC your CPU ( which doesn't seem to be working well with Haswell CPU atm ), the Hero is a better buy than the Extreme.

And M6 Hero does have internal usb2.0/3.0 headers on the board, 1 for 3.0 and 2 for 2.0 .

  2. Already a thread answering this. Hero may technically be out, but not really shipping for another week. On amazon it says 2-4 week shipping estimate.

  3. its out but its useless for you. something like a z87-a board will run you more than fine.

Why would this motherboard be useless for me? Isn't the Maximus VI Hero an Z87 motherboard to begin with?
  5. -overclocking will the be the same in the end unless you are doing liquid nitrogen
-feature set is the same as its z87. you may get a few extra usb3 ports or sata ports but in reality no one uses more than 4 sata ports unless this is a home server
-extra sound can be aquired through a external sound card that sounds better
    -price is ridiculous

I am not going to do any custom water cooling or liquid nitrogen. I am only going to cool my Haswell 4770K with an Corsair H100i. I am not going to do any overclocking unless I really need it, and if I do, I will only overclock it to 4.0Ghz at the most. This is an Z87 motherboard and the extra USB 3 and SATA ports can't hurt since it is nice to have extra since you never know if you will need them. I don't want to have to buy an external sound card when the onboard sound card can make me happy. The price to me is not terrible as it $220 and not $400 like the maximus VI extreme motherboard. Also I really like the black and red style as that is the theme of my new computer. So am I making a good choice getting this motherboard?

    Yes.
  8. if its only 4ghz, a hyper 212 evo is more than enough. dont waste your time with a cheapo liquid cooler. get something legit like a h220 or custom or grab a heatsink

the gigabyte ud3h is a much better choice. by the looks of it, the hero is a even lower end board.

  9. I would also not recommend ordering this mobo from amazon as it is still not shipping for another week+ even though it shows as "in stock" on the product page. I ordered one over a week ago and on order tracking it still shows that is hasn't even began to ship yet and the delivery estimate is early July. I would try newegg or even go into a physical store if you need it immediately.
