Red dots/blue lines on screen and unstable system

Hey guys, I recently got a new computer and it was working great. I moved it to the lounge, set it back up and it was showing blue lines/ red dots on screen, followed by display driver crashing and BSOD.

After an hour of tinkering and reinstalling drivers, doing sys tests and video mem tests, I discovered a half plugged in data cable at the monitor end. (yes I should have checked this first and i'm a dumbass) Pressing it in seemed to instantly fix the lines and dots.

My question is: Could the loose monitor cable really have caused the display driver to crash, and blue screens? I never knew this was possible, hence not checking if the monitor was at fault earlier.

Any feedback would be appreciated and hopefully make me all the little wiser! cheers!

Contrary to many computer user's belief, computer hardware can be as sensitive as an infant.

Using Dust as an example; Dust can overheat a system, and cause many issues. Simply dusting could fix a plethora of problems.

A loose wire in my experience once nearly absolutely wrecked my HDD; Since it was a power cable, power would run to the HDD and stop sporadically, causing it to constantly start and restart.

Ahh wise words, I'm presuming the dodgy connection was somehow making the video card unstable. I've had one display driver failure since my ordeal (which it recovered from), hopefully it wont happen again.

I had the same screen issue, hadn't crashed to BSOD, 30 degree day and i was worried that the card had overheated, first answer I looked at was yours and that was it..
Apparently i had not tightened the cable after I moved the monitor.

Thanks, saved me heaps of trouble shooting effort.
