I don't know which RAM to buy, my friend keeps telling me to make sure the RAM i buy is "compatible" but i don't know what i am looking for in the compatibility! I have the Msi Z87-GD65 gaming motherboard with an intel i7 4770k.

i had narroed my Ram to:
-G skill Ripjaws X 1600 CL9 9-9-9-24
-G Skill Sniper Series 1600 CL9 9-9-9-24
- Corsair Vengeance CL9 DDR3, 2133MHZ 8GB 2X240 DIMM, UNBUFFERED, 11-11-11-27, VENGEANCE RED HEATSPREADER, BLACK PCB, 1.5v

Will either of those be incompatible? I have checked the manual of the Mb, it seems to support Non-EC,Unbuffered which to my limited knowledge matches both of the RAM sticks :/ Any help is appreciated :)

Solution
Yes, they should be fine and there's no way of telling exactly how high a particular set will go, but I've had these up to 2200 on a P67/2500K, would say 1866 is basically a given and 2133 a strong possible

Have done much direct OC help on Tom's forums yet, but a guy I'm working with Jake Anderson here, came out with a set of 1866 Snipers and think it only took a couple of posts to get him to 2133, see here:

Any of those will work (as a fuggestion I'd go with a higher freq particularly if you are getting a K model), the Haswell CPUs are native 1600 - also you have a problem here (prob a typo)

you show " Corsair Vengeance CL9 DDR3, 2133MHZ 8GB 2X240 DIMM, UNBUFFERED, 11-11-11-27, VENGEANCE RED HEATSPREADER, BLACK PCB, 1.5v"

"vengeance CL9" then you list timings of 11-11-11-27 - prob there is that first 11 in you sequence is suppose to be the CL which you list as CL9 in the beginning, typically if this is a CL9 set the timings would be in the vicinity of 9-9-9-24 or 9-10-9-24. If it is actually a CL11 set, then I'd look for a CL9 set (even a 1866 CL9 or CL10 set will give better performance overall than 2133/11

So am i looking for a CL9 9-9-9-24 dual channel RAM then yes?
That "Typo" i had copied and pasted that memory information from " http://www.waeplus.co.uk/item/231281/DDR3%2C-2133MHz-8GB-2x240-Dimm%2C-Unbuffered?ref=gooad&gclid=CK7O__zV0bcCFajKtAodwWoAsA " :p

Since i am getting the Msi Z87 mb, would i be better of going for the gskill ripjaws X " http://www.dabs.com/products/g-skill-8gb--2-x-4gb--ripjaws-x-ddr3-pc3-12800-1600mhz-cl9-7Z4V.html?q=g%20skill&src=16 " since it will complement the mb colour o_O or the Corsair Vengeance CL9 " http://www.waeplus.co.uk/item/154168/Corsair-Vengeance-CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9R-RAM "

And out of those two which one is the better RAM, as in will overclock better. I have heard that the gskill's have considerable headroom when overclocking...if so, will that be a better choice than the Corsair?

I've been a fanboy of GSkill for years and am always testing systems, DRAM in particular, and will honestly say in my testing GSkill comes out on top appr 90% of the time, after a few hundred sets of GSkill I've come across very few that won't OC well, with little effort, and in head to head it about the same with GSkill coming out on top over Corsair, Crucial, Mushkin and others. Actually, I like them so much I'm a daily fixture over in their forums, they've broken from the norm of actual company centric forums where the actual suppoet is provided by the company techs and made me a volunteer Administrator

Wow! Gskill MUST really love you <3 heheh

So as a final before i order the RAM, is this RAM from G skill good enough for 4770k using Msi z87-gd65 " http://www.dabs.com/products/g-skill-8gb--2-x-4gb--ripjaws-x-ddr3-pc3-12800-1600mhz-cl9-7Z4V.html?q=g%20skill&src=16 "

i know they are rated at 1600mhz, but if i were to OC them, what speed do you reckon i can get..? i know 1600mhz is good enough already, but i will be OC-ing :p

This set will generally easily OC to 1866 at 10-10-10-24, 2T, 1.53 and if you want to try (if you need help contact the GSkill forums) should be able to hit 2133 at CL11, for that though, in all honesty we'd probably have to make a couple voltage adjustments and possibly a couple changes in the Advanced timings

And yeah, the GSkill folks and I get along, I keep in touch with their head tech here in the states and in touch with their head tech, some of the marketing folks and Field Engineers in their HQ in Taipei....The better thing is the customers seem to appreciate me...take a look here:

That sounds like alot of performance for a RAM stick rated at 1600 :D
So in essence GSkill Ripjaws X are a good bet, yes?

Also, (This might sound nooby but...) am i better getting an XMP ready RAM stick or are all RAM's XMP ready? for Haswelll's memory controller to take full advantage of!

Just as a Final LOL.
is the Ripjaws X XMP compliant?
