I have a small network with 8 computers and 10 printers on it. I am using DHCP currently and I am wondering if there is any advantage to switching to static addresses. I have had a few issues with printers not working after a power outage because they received a different IP address than the driver was set up for and after that I set those printers to static. I have also had some issues with a specific Windows 7 machine regularly losing it's connection to an OSX machine. It only loses it for a couple of seconds, but does this probably 10-15 times a day, which of course is very annoying.

You want to ensure that all your Printers have a static IP. On DHCP soon as they power off a new ip is assigned and all your 8 pcs then lose connection. DHCP is fine for machines and you only really need a static IP for things such as remote tools. We have a remote tool that allows users to send a request which uses our ip address.
