Alright Tom's Hardware folks, the title says it all.
Been searching for a 3.5" 500GB HDD for my new built PC, but I don't know which one to go for.

Cost wise,
Toshiba is the cheapest, next to Seagate and WD is the most expensive among the three.

SEAGATE 500GB SATA3 7200RPM
TOSHIBA 500GB SATA3 7200RPM
WD500GB BLUE 16MB SATA3 7200RPM

Note this is for storage, my OS runs in a SSD.

I consider that more of a personal taste scenario - we have all had a drive die and it makes us loathe that company if we didn't have backups. I personally switch between Western Digital and Seagate based on pricing - both companies have been fairly reliable to me and their warranty policy has been sufficient to make me keep buying from them. You can use any drive as long as you're backing your files up to an alternate source as well. I backup my important documents (tax details, resume, old projects, photos, etc.) to cloud drives (google drive, skydrive, etc.). I backup my media to an external drive.

If you're doing those steps, it's just about performance and warranty.

I used WD for many years and have had the odd failure but for the most part was satisfied.
Now, I use only Seagate as I find them quitter and more reliable as I haven't had one fail since I started using them in 2002.
Could be just the luck of the draw when buying them...wish I had the same luck with lotteries..lol
Hope this helps. JQ
