Im sure this topic has been beaten to death somewhere but I just cant find what im looking for. Im just curious what the point of getting a processor that is a cpu and gpu in one. I like having a graphics card since it is easy to upgrade when necessary but i feel like getting a processor that does both would just be a waste of money since i wouldnt need it to also have gpu.

UNLESS, can these new processors work WITH a graphics card to even further enhance graphics processing?

Or if im doing a new build should i just go with intel??

Any help or links to other threads would be awesome, thanks

Currently, the A10-5800k/5700 and the A10-6800k/6700 can Dual Graphics with a HD 7750 as of the last version of catalyst (13.4)

The lesser APUs can DG with HD 6570/6670 depending on the APU.

EDIT: Though honestly...the A10's are about on par performance wise with the HD 6670 to begin with. So the graphics for those are not terribly bad at all. Unless you have very demanding graphics needs, you should be fine with one for light to moderate gaming.

ok thanks that is the answer i was looking for.

on a side note, how do you think the phenom II x4 965 would hold up now, i know its an older chip? I may just upgrade my processor and not the whole rig and my mobo only supports AM3.

Your 965 isn't bad right now...if you OC you could be good until Steamroller in 6 months. Steamroller will be on AM3+, so if you bought a new MB/CPU combo you could upgrade to SR when it hits.

Don't forget to share some solution love :)

Today they're really just for mobile platforms that can't afford the room or power for discrete graphics cards. They are more power efficient for things like watching movies.

APUs in 5 years will likely obsolete discrete GPUs except for high resolution multi-monitor gaming.
