Gigabyte GTX 660 SLI or a better graphics card?

So I just bought the Gigabyte version of the Geforce GTX 660 and I'm wondering if i should get another one and connect them with SLI, or get a new and better graphics card. Any ideas?

if you just bought the 660 and is already having doubts about its performance, you should just return it and get a gtx770, of if you can afford it a 780. SLI is the option you consider a year or two down the road and can get a second copy of the card for 30-50% cheaper. or if you're the extreme user already with the best of the best and that's still not enough.

It is almost always better to get a single good card over SLI/CF unless you can't get the performance you want from a single card. Titan would be the exception, given its price. While SLI may be a lot better than CF, it is not perfect.

Take a look at the 770.

when you say you just bought, do you mean its still in shipping or its in your system already?

i feel like if you have it and dont like it, then return it while you can. if you havent even tried it out yet, make sure that it wont meet your needs before you doubt it too much. i have a 660 and it works great for 1080 gaming. it just depends on what you need from your computer.

i used to have 2x 660s for that same reason. it can play across 3 monitors. I played bf3 and i could play on high and get 45-55 fps consistently. im not sure one 770 could play higher than that since its for all practical purposes a rebranded 680 and most models only have 2gb. 2 660s were close to on par with a single 680

i just grazed this but it seems that it is saying about the same thing:

the choice is yours ovbiously but if you do go with a 770, see if you can get one with more than 2 gb

I've also heard that I shouldn't have an expensive GPU and a cheap CPU or an expensive CPU and a cheap GPU. I have the amd fx 8350, do you think i should upgrade to an intel if consider buying a gtx 770 in the future?

I've been thinking and I don't think i want to spend money on a gigabyte geforce gtx 770. Do you think i will be happy with 2 660s to play with three monitors on black ops 2? I'm not that guy who really wants to plays smooth on max graphics settings. I have a 600w power supple but do i have to upgrade if i want two graphic cards? If i have to upgrade what do you recommend?

the AMD 8350 will only start to lab behind as you add a 3rd GPU. for 1 or 2 it's sufficient for the task. personally, I would jump on the better single card solution over 2 cards just because it's significantly less power draw/noise. you get higher memory bandwidth which will make your triple-monitor set up perform better, and you have an upgrade path. due to the AM3+ chipset and the lack of manufacturer enthusiasm, AMD chips lack sufficient PCIe bandwidth to go higher than 2 GPUs, so if you have any issue with 2 660s, you're outta luck and have to sell them and get something new. whereas with one 770, you can always save up for a second (or sell it, it'll be 1 generation newer and thus sells for more)

The 2 660s will play across three screens. The only issue is the 2gb of ram when you get to max graphics settings. You will get pretty good performance though. You will also have to upgrade the psu (I had a 700 watt ocz powering mine and never had an issue). There are benefits to either option, you'll just have to weigh out which works better for you.

But aren't i doubling the vram to 4gb if i have two 2gb 660 in sli?

The way SLI and CrossfireX work, you do not double the effective vram. They act as two independent cards rendering every other frame.
