I have a custom built PC
2x 1024 AMD Radeon HD 6700 PCI-Express VGA Graphic Cards
AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 3.6Ghz AM3+ Processor
2x 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 1333Mhz Ram
ASUS M5A99X AM3+, SLi/CFire, DDR3 Motherboard
500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm s-ATA 16Mb Cache Harddrive

In the last few months my pc has been freezing whilst watching videos and on internet explorer. Plus when I am playing a game it will freeze the whole computer and not comeback on.

I have very recently wiped the whole machine and started from scratch but this has not helped the problem. I have today run the windows 7 memory diagnostic and it has identified a memory issue.

Is there anything more that I can do or would this just be a simple repair of replacing the RAM?

Replacing memory is cheap these days, that would be the only solution if you have failing memory. Especially if the memory is under warranty!

Download Memtest86+ at www.memtest.org and run that for a couple of passes. If you still have errors, then there is only one option and that is to replace your failed memory. You can also test each one individually to determine if one or both DIMMs are faulty.

EDIT: How long ago did you purchase these? Does the store you bought them at offer any kind of replacement warranty?

I will give that Memtest ago when I get home. I bought it in January last year and it has a 12 month guarantee so that passed unfortunately five months ago.

When you say test each one individually do you mean to take one out and test it and then switch?

The best way to run Memtest (albeit it is time consuming) is to test each stick individually in the mobos designated slot (usually slot 1 from the CPU))...You may on occasion get errors when testing multiple sticks together that are false and by testing each stick by itself you can A) isolate problems down to a single stick (seldom will you have multiple sticks go bad at the same time) B) Find that the 'problem' occurs in the same test on each stick which can indicate a problem not with the sticks but between the programming in Memtest and your hardware or even a failure or start of an upcoming failure in the CPU or the mobo proper C) doubt if it's the problem here but have run into multiple Memtest failures in the past due to a conflict in the mobo/component drivers and evn in the BIOS

I have run the test you recommended on each stick of RAM and one of them came back with over 300 errors on it and the other one passed the test.

Currently I have the dodgy RAM sitting on desk.

Will it be a case of replacing that stick?

You will want to buy another pair, 4GB or take this opportunity to upgrade to 8GB rather than just replace one DIMM. It is recommended that your dual channel memory be a matched pair.
