The stock i5 3570k cooler wires were catching on the fan blades which led to an overheat and BSOD. My system went very slowly for a while even in the bios (on a gigabyte 7zz-3dh I think). scared that its caused damage.

I didnt mess with the wires, they were in the pre designed wire clips on the fan. Before I identified the problem I noticed the cpu temp over 96oc in the bios. Could this have caused damage to my brand new cpu?

I've unclipped the wires now to free it up so it spins again, it seems to be working fine now but i'm worried that the cpu got hurt. also curious if I should be annoyed as ive never had to unhook wires from a cpu fan before and going through the manual there is no mention of doing that either!

Thank you Novuake, you've put my mind at ease.

It was only after I took the side panel off and turned it on that I noticed the cpu fan was catching on the wires, id kinda figured it wouldn't be a massive issue but it had been pretty much 2 days until the problem actually arose so was probably being paranoid having spent 170 quid on my new chip!

On a side note, should I have taken the wires out of their clips before hand for the stock 3570k cooler? I didn't have to do that on my previous builds so it seems a little odd to me!

Thanks again.
