GTX 770 is better than A stock 7970. With the 770 you get a similar 7970 Ghz performance

The GTX 770 is better. It is actually the same exact card as the GTX 680 but with a different BIOS. Also, Asus has a good reputation for quality hardware. The software that comes with the GPU, though, is trash. If you get an Nvidia card, use MSI Afterburner for your overclocking and GPU control utility.

The 7970 is good if you plan on using more than two monitors. It has more RAM and a wider bus at 384-bits. If you do not currently have Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Bioshock: Infinite and Crysis 3, then the HD 7970 is a steal. That is $150 worth of free games and they are 4 of the best new games out in the last 2 years. Those games are must haves, especially Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite. FC3: BD is more of an expansion, the original FC3 is much better.

One benefit to the 770 over a 680 is the $100 price cut with the change, and higher rated VRAM.

I was saying the 770 is better or equal in every way, but one if you compare to a 4gb version.
