Windows 8 reformatting ("resetting") taking forever.

Why does this take so long?

Is it because you can reformat disc-less? Didn't they originally tout that the entire process would only take 30 minutes during their sales presentation of the windows 8 release?

I'm at 4-ish hours with some fairly solid hardware and I'm at 34%.

Anyone have any experiences similar or not similar?

if you don't plan giving away your PC don't use "Full clean" option (which is supposed to clean all the private data through multiple erases thus preventing data mining). With the second option (actually it is first in the list) everything goes 10x+ times faster. I recognized it at 40% after 3 hours and still decided to interrupt: it worth that - got clean reset in 25 mins.

After almost 7 hours I'm at 66%....

@Outlander; did you have a disc or the new disc-less route?
Also, are you sure you don't mean a REFRESH?
Not to be confused with a different option called a RESET.

Curious if it has to d/l the entire thing.
