Hey,

I heard about some good routers out there coming out soon or have already been released. The DGL-5500 is one in particular I was looking at but its taking forever to be released. I heard a lot of news about new Asus routers but I have no idea which are new / good.

I only use the router for direct connect but since my brothers / family use xbox / phones / laptops wirelessly we need the router to be wirelessly capable.

Currently using a DGL-4500 and there's been problems with it since we got it. Random disconnections/poor connection its been a disaster for a year or so we have had it. It is definitely time to replace and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to which Asus routers are the best out there rate now.

Points:

1)I would agree that you should first investigate if there's a firmware update and see if that helps. Here's how in case you are uncertain: http://www.dlink.cc/d-link-router/how-to-update-firmware-on-d-link-dgl-4500.html

2) It might be your MODEM that is the problem, not your router. To troubleshoot ONLY USE THE MODEM (can only connect one PC to it). The MODEM is responsible for the internet connection, the router simply shares your various computers/devices with that same connection or on your local connection.

3) Here's a review of the Netgear WNDR4500 (not 4300):

*Note the comment about the NEW STANDARD. You may wish to wait for one of those (if the firmware solution doesn't help for your current router).

Yes trouble shooted everything with the router its no good. I want a reliable amazing router with a good interface, and an excellent connection and it will recognize everything quickly etc. One thing I really hate about this router is the time it takes when resetting it or anything to do with it to "recalculate the internet speed" and it just takes an extra minute or so to do anything. I want a router that doesn't have any of these issues. Games that allow a reconnection with a 1 min or so wait time destroy me because of the broken router I have now. So I need a very good router that wont ever cause problems and will last around 3 years.

My main advice as mentioned above is to wait for a good router with the new standard:
802.ac

Normally I'd say the current standard is more than adequate but you seem to want the best. While the 802.ac standard requires a newer wi-fi adapter for OPTIMAL performance it should still work better with your existing wireless products.

If you can't wait then maybe the Netgear WNDR4500.

You can also look for customer reviews at Amazon, NCIX, Newegg etc. (I find them invaluable for finding products with major issues.)

The DGL-5500 is out and has been well reviewed:

Don't ignore other routers for gaming though:
