Just in case you're talking about sata1, they're also compatible with sata2 disks, just at sata1 speeds

All the SATA revisions are forward and backward compatible with each other, however you will only get the bandwidth of the lowest bandwidth connector.
If your using a HDD, there will be no difference whether its running on a 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s connection, SSD's need a 6Gb/s connection for their full performance.
