Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a new PC, for gaming use primarily.

I'm thinking of spending $800 to $1000, but I am willing to flex the range for a bit more performance if necessary. I have a preference for Nvidia and Intel, but I am open to AMD.

Basically, I am looking to get the most out, performance vs. dollars. I have a keyboard, mouse, and monitor (1680 x 1050). I need everything else: case, gpu, CPU, psu, ram, motherboard, speakers, etc.

Browsing components, I liked the i7-3770k and GTX 670, but you guys know better. Thanks so much for your advice!

It'd be tough to get both the i7-3770K and the GTX 670 into the same build for under $1,000. However, you can go with the newer Haswell i5-4670k, and either an HD 7950 or a GTX 660 Ti. Also, the GTX 760 Ti is coming out soon, so it would probably be best to wait for that.

  • CPU: i5-4670K (~$250)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (~$30)
    Motherboard: ASUS Z87 A ATX LGA1150 (~$150)
Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 7950 (~$300)
    Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 1866 MHz (~$70)
Hard Drive: Western Digital 1TB Hard Drive (~$65)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 430 (~$50)
Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK III (~$90)
Optical Drive: Samsung 24X SATA DVD RW (~$20)
Total: ~$1,000

I threw the HD 7950 in there for now, but like I said, the GTX 760 Ti will be out soon. So, I'd probably wait for that if I were you.
