Hello,

First time poster, and just ordered my first gaming computer. I have a question regarding cooling.

I will be running 2 way SLI GTX 780s, and an i5 4670K CPU. The cooler that I ordered is the Corsair H40. Will this cooler be sufficient? I would like to OC in the near future (I will be posting later asking about how exactly is the best way to go about overclocking). Please let me know if any other hardware specifications are needed.

I am very new to PC gaming and hardware so I apologize in advance.

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to Toms forum.

The H40 from Corsair is a good cooling solution but depending on what you intend to overclock to it may not be sufficient. The new Haswell processors are low voltage so that means low heat and the H40 will do very nicely, however the Ivy Bridge has shown that these low voltage processors can be troublesome when overclocking to certain top speeds. I may have went with a higher model H-60 or even the H-50.

When posting for the overclocking help later , post in the overclocking section to receive the best help.

Okay, thanks!

I don't plan on over clocking for a while, because from my research I will not need to for the time being, correct me if I am wrong though. So possibly when I start over clocking I will pick up a more powerful cooling system. Would you recommend sticking with Corsair? Any other brands you'd recommend more so? Thank you for the reply and informative answer.

One never needs to overclock, it's usually a choice to do so because the CPU allows it and most people with an unlocked processor will want to experiment to see what they can get for an overclock with it. If your computers running the games that you play to your satisfaction then you may decide to not overclock.

The closed loop CPU cooler is a fairly new product and each day more companies are getting involved and putting out their own version of one. There are now quite a few choices where this time last year there were just a handful and now there are a lot.
Corsair has the most models available and is probably the top one at the moment, the Swiftech H220 is one of the op quality models and they have been in the water cooling business for a long time so I would take a close look at anything that they put out. I have used Swiftech CPU blocks in my water cooling loops and found them to be very good quality.
