Hello Everybody,

I have a 500GB internal HDD, after upgradation i have made this a External HDD by giving a Casing to it. The casing says it have USB 2.O. My PC also have USB 2.0 ports. But everytime when i insert the HDD it says "This device can perform faster". After that when I try to transfer simple data files ...it says time remaining 7 Hours. Transfer rate is 304kb/s large video files 1.55 mb/s and it also says 7 hours remaining.

My queries are:

1) Why it always says "This device can perform faster" though i have USB 2.0 ports?

2) Why the data transfer is lacking a good speed and attains a speed of a tortoise?

3) What should be done to get a good speed data transfer?

My Specs are :

OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
MOBO : ASUS P5G41T-M LX3
RAM: 4GB

I will be obliged to get my queries fulfilled.

Thanks and regards

Nil

I have also tested in another PC with Win 7 64bit, 12GB RAM, GB 970, 1GB DDR 5, it transfers about 16mb/s

I have also optimized the HDD for better performance from CONTROL PANEL> DEVICE MANAGER >DISK DRIVES>USB>OPTIONS

Make absolutely sure that the device is plugged into a USB 2.0 port, that the correct drivers are installed, and, if the BIOS has a setting for USB ports, that it is set for USB 2.0.

Hi Bubblehead,

Actually my BIOS states USB 2 enabled with high speed, all the rear USB ports are USB 2.0, device manager shows enhanced USB controller, i have updated driver, they says it is Up to date...believe me i am just confused what to do, transfer rate is really damn slow....

Thanks all,

at last the problem is solved ...i changed the USB cable, changed with the one which came with the casing and just speeded up to 30mb/ps for 30 gb and more than 100 in data files above 4 gb
