What do you guys think? I can spend more on the Video Card but I am interested in this new GTX770. I was looking in going with the AMD FX-8350 but the i7 is just so much better for just $120 bucks more. I think Ivy is still better than the new Haswell for desktops. Haswell makes mobile devices more efficient. Not what I’m looking for here. Would you guys change anything? I already have everything not listed. Thanks! All prices from newegg.com.

NecrOv - How about this setup?

I might actually get another SSD... I don't think I'll need it just yet.

Why 2 VelociRaptors and no SSD? Unless you really need them for a specific reason, seems a waste. Personally I'd be getting a 256GB SSD and a 1 or 2TB HDD (WD Blue).

Also, I'd be going the 4770k. Haswell may not be the biggest improvement however it is slightly in the desktop space and the LGA1150 motherboard will be more future proof for the next gen CPU's.
I'd be getting some cheaper RAM also, again unless you have a need for it.
a
What's your main purposes?

I'm just making it for gaming and fun. All Info is good info here.
I chose 2 VR's @ 10,000 because still pretty quick, I get more space, more reliable get 2 and put into a raid 0. SSD drives can only be written on so many times. Transistors will give out. I don't think it's worth getting one yet.
I want at least 2400 ram and the Gskill looked like the fastest for a good price and performance.
I'm going to look into the Haswell dang it. I still like the i7 ivy. I might have to go with the 4770k though.

Fair enough. If that's what you'd prefer.

However, if you are worried about reliability then RAID 0 isn't the best of choice...I've had one fail before and it's not fun.
If you get any decent SSD they have warranty's of 5 years, which is longer than most anticipated computer life if you take into account the PSU, CPU, GPU and the effects of overclocking (which I assume you will since the K chip and Z77 board).

As far as Ivy vs Haswell, I'm currently running a 3770k and it's a fine chip, no reason to upgrade to Haswell.
However, if I was going to buy my computer new now i'd be going Haswell for sure. There is enough benchmarks and reviews running around now to show the improvements, while not much it is something + the new socket is definitely the biggest bonus. It's the same debate really as the Sandy to Ivy transition, minor improvements for a small cost. You should also consider the Z87 chipset feature (SATA, PCI-E etc) improvements of the Z77.

Have you also considered whether you NEED an i7? Unless you really need Hyper Threading then the i5's are definitely an option for gaming and general use.

End of the day it's up to you, it's your computer!

Sounds like I might have to go with an SSD. What would be the better configuration between $300 and $400 for my SSD and HDD? I'll probably use the SSD for games only and the HDD for data.

If you're looking for a good SSD then there are a heap of reviews on Toms, March was the last full roundup http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-recommendation-benchmark,3269.html

Personally, I've gone with a SanDisk Extreme 256GB for my desktop and upgraded my laptop to an Intel 330 128GB. However if the Samsung 840/Pro had been out at the time I most likely would have gone for that. I suggest you look into the differences and make a decision based on cost/performance/reliability. Both are really fast and I've never had any problem with either if that's any consideration.

I use a similar configuration with games, programs, OS on the SSD and general storage (music, movies etc) on the HDD. Any 7200RPM HDD will do really, depends on how big you will need. It seems that at the moment 2TB is only slightly more expensive than 1TB so that's probably the best option however if you don't think you'll need it save your money! Any reputable brand (WD, Seagate etc) will do, again read up on the differences between specifications. If it's just for storage then WD Blue or Green will be sufficient.

Hope that helps!

if you're interested CarterT, before deciding on an ssd have a look at the Samsung 840 pros 512GB. For the size, they're quite in a league of their own and performance is comparable with the best.

Keep in mind if this is your first time buying an ssd they are tiny ( i mean tiny, 1/3 smaller than a floppy drive) and it might be a hit or miss with a cradle supplied by the case. Anyway something to be aware of you may need to buy one separately or you can look at other ways people have been mounting them like sticking them with velcro.

Looks good. As Boju said though I would consider the Samsung drives, however they are a little more expensive. Also check if that case can house 2.5" drives else you may need a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter. I have been known to just use double sided tape though ha.

I've never had an Adata drive so can't comment on them however I'm sure someone else here may have?

Besides that I reckon you're looking pretty good.
