I ws re-applying thermal grease on my proccesor and unfortunatly dropped the thing to my floor... i wanted 2 take it outa my mobo jst to prevent the grease frm spreading over my mobo.. later wn i installed it back , plugged the plugs and switchedmy power back on, i ws quite dissappointed to find that i cud find no possible reaction frm my CPU .. like literally nothing.. even wn i pressed my power button , it ws still dead ... it lukd jst lyk how it luks wn its got no power to it.. i later found a really small gold pin on my floor and realizd it ws frm my proccesor...

Could this mean a prossesor failure ??.. do i need to replace it ??... i kno my mobo is fine coz the mobo light, well lights up and i get power output frm my USB drives ... Could any1 pleaz diagnose this !.. thank you !!

If you found a pin its not a good sign. I also dropped my cpu doing a similar task once. Luckily the pins just bent, no snapage. Could you tell us which processor it is?

I guess it depends, to use any of the newer AMD chips you would need AM3+ , so I assume you need to upgrade board (and potentially ram, you would need to check that) and get new chip. The problem is the 965BE was/is quite a strong chip so you are going to need to spend a bit to match its performance in the newer AMD stuff (don't forget I assume you would need a new board aswell).

I have a 965BE and I'm holding out till steamroller before I upgrade. You can still get 965s on new egg for like $90. If i was you id just replace it and hold fire till the end of the year. Gives you a chance to save up then, in order to replace the mobo, ram and chip in one go.
