Hi.

Building a new PC now with the release of Haswell.

Approximate Purchase Date: Hopefully today or tomorrow

Budget Range: (e.g.: 300-400) ~£1 400

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, programming and normal use

Are you buying a monitor: No, just ordered Sony KDL-46W905A to use with it.

Parts to Upgrade: Everything!

Location: Norway

Parts Preferences: Intel Haswell and GTX 770

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

--

Parts so far:

Asus MAXIMUS VI HERO Z87 S-1150
Intel i5 4670K
Corsair GS 700W GAMING SERIES PSU 2013 EDT
MSI GeForce GTX770 Lightning OC
Fractal Design Define R4
HyperX 8GB 1600Mhz RAM

I am a little unsure about the PSU and the motherboard, but mostly the PSU. The motherboard seems OK, and I'm used to the Asus BIOS and like it a lot.

I would greatly appreciate some help!

The PSU is way more than enough. It will be perfectly fine.

I would recommend either a lower-wattage PSU if you don't intend to use two graphics cards later, or a 750W+ PSU if you do intend to use two graphics cards (or want to keep the option available).

Which would you recommend? The availability here isn't the greatest...

Your PSU is fine. Just a bit overkill. It will work just fine.

I know it might be overkill, but I have to choose from what I can. Like Seasonic I can almost forget due availability...

What about the XFX ProSeries XXX Edition 650W? Is it better than the one I have already chosen? The XFX is actually a little more expensive.

I appreciate silence and stability. And the fact that it will work with Haswell.

Komplett has the XFX Core Edition 550W available for 575 NOK.

The 650W edition has got some complaints about noise, from two customer reviews.
The Corsair GS 700W costs 700 NOK, which isn't much, like $20 more. I don't know if it's a better deal. Money ain't that big of an issue, but I don't want to spent more than necessary.

It's hard to say which one will be quieter, since fan noise is rarely tested in reviews (and user reviews/complaints are highly unreliable).

I see.

What about the Corsair TX 750W modular? 850 NOK, around $30 more than the GS 700W. Would that be a better choice? Or wouldn't I notice any difference?

The most substantial difference would be that it's modular, and that it would be sufficient for two GTX 770s in SLI.

TX is supposed to be higher quality than GS in Corsair's lineup, but it's a bit confusing with all the various OEMs they've used for the TX series lately.

Yeah I don't quite get the hang of it.

But the bottom line is that I'll be better of with the TX 750W modular?

BTW, I see that i can get the Antec High Current Gamer 900 W for the same price as the Corsair TX 750W. Would that be a better choice? Sorry for the dumb questions.

Well, you lose the modular cabling and the extra power isn't required. The quality may be slightly better, but the TX 750M should still be pretty good.

I'll go for the TX 750W modular then. If I look around more, I'll never get an PSU ><

Also, I find the Corsair H100i at some good prices here. Would it fit in my case with the components I have chosen?

Well, the case does mount a 240mm radiator, but things could get a bit tight up against the top of the motherboard. Chances are the 8-pin EPS power cable will have to go across the motherboard instead of just squeezing around the top edge.

Hmm. I see videos and other forum posts of people fitting the H100i inside the R4. Don't know how it will be with this motherboard though. I'm not used to having the best looking case inside, so if that's the issue, it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to make sure that it'll fit.
