Dear Sirs,

This forum is a godsend to me over the last few days.

As some of you know my PC spcs are as follows:

I'm currently running on Windows 7 Ultimate, Max 2GB Ram, Max usb Ready-Boost, Intel D Processor (775, Pentium D, 960(D0), Presler, 3.60GHz, 800MHz, 4M), Nivida 6800 512MB VGA, Motherboard AsRock 775i65G R3.0., 1TB sata Hard Drive, and few more bits and bobs not worth mentioning.

Link for mobo: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/775i65G%20R3.0/?cat=CPU

The CPU's have been narrowed down to three that the mobo will work with, so I need your expert advise and assistance for, which CPU should I go for and what sort of used price is reasonable to pay on e-bay?

1. 775 Core 2 Extreme QX6800(G0) Kentsfield 2.93GHz 1066MHz 8MB (overclocking required)

2. 775 Core 2 Quad Q6700(G0) Kentsfield 2.66GHz 1066MHz 8MB (overclocking required)

3. 775 Core 2 Quad Q6600(G0) Kentsfield 2.4GHz 1066MHz 8MB (overclocking required).

I appreciate that the extreme CPU is going to be the winner over-all It's just that (That's the max the mobo can handle) but is it best to get the highest/max CPU or will I be running the mobo into the ground?

It's just 2 & 3, that I'm really in a pickle with, is the extra 0.26GHz x4 really going to be that noticeable? And, is it wise using 1066MHz apposed to 800MHz, as I'm sure a read somewhere that 1066MHz will slow the PC down and 800MHz would be the better choice?

Not into games via the PC that's what the PlayStation 3 I have is for, but I do like my downloading (movies, etc).

Hope to hear from you experts alike shortly.

With kind regards, Jonathan

memory speed is not an issue, I wouldn't pay more than £150, because for not much more, (maybe £250) you;d be able to get mobo, cpu and memory and be a lot quicker and cooler.

If you can afford a new CPU, id recommend a totally new build.
You can find a decent AMD A series APU board & CPU for cheap off of ebay, to bring up the performance, as those CPUs are horribly outdated. The A series APUs have graphics built in, so it ends up being cheaper and faster.

Dear All,

Post Solved!

Got my hands on a 775 Core 2 Quad Q6700(G0) Kentsfield 2.66GHz 1066MHz 8MB. Works fantastically.

Thanks for everyone's input, Jonathan
