Hello All:

My current video card of nearly 3 years, my Sapphire vapor-x radeon hd 4870 1gb 256-bit gddr5 pci express 2.0 x16 hdcp ready crossfirex support just breathed it's last breath. I'm looking for a good upgrade for under $100. My son uses the PC in question, playing mostly RoBlox, Minecraft, EverQuest2, Dungeons and Dragons: Neverwinter, Half Life 2, Gary's Mod, Left for Dead 1,2. I'd consider an upgrade over $100 if it's not excessively over that mark. We only run 1 monitor, so dual monitor support isn't required.

I'd recommend a Radeon HD 7770. You can get one for $80 after rebates, and it comes with a couple of free games.

It's not a huge upgrade from the 4870, but it is faster. And of course it adds support for DirectX 11 and uses a lot less power. Multi-monitor support, sorry, but that's pretty much unavoidable in this day and age.

Thanks for the advice. I don't care about the multi-monitor support. If it comes with it, so be it. Again, this is for my son's PC, he just cares if it works, and if the performance is comparable, he'll be happy. I don't want to go gonzo on a new card and set his expectations high for future upgrades. haha. When he can afford his own hardware upgrades, I'll let him worry about it.

Any other suggestions?
