I just OC'd my CPU for the first time to 3.9Ghz and I have a Corsair H80 CPU water cooler, and I get Idle temps of 49-53*C. Is that okay?

Seems quite high. It's not a problem in itself, but it may indicate inadequate cooling which can become a problem once the CPU is under load. Try running a CPU stress test like Prime95 and watch the temps (stop the program if the temp goes above ~65C).

I have done so a few minutes ago, and I had 75*C in seconds. Eventually it'll go up to 80*C and I didn't want to risk damaging my CPU. (BTW my thermal paste is about 6 months old my H80 water block, should I need a replacement perhaps?)

Yeah that's a problem. You don't have enough cooling for that overclock. Turn up the fan speed if possible, see if that helps.

The thermal paste should still be fine after 6 months, but it wouldn't hurt to try and remount the water block with some fresh paste. I also assume you've checked that the radiator isn't clogged with dust.

That's probably why. I haven't cleaned the radiator since I got it.
