Not sure if gpu is powered correctly

Hey guys, I've got a simple question, but I haven't been able to find much information about it online. So I just put together all the parts for a new computer, but I wasn't seeing anything on the monitor when I turned it on.

I took the graphics card out and it worked fine. Here's my problem: Is the graphics card faulty or did I not have it powered right?

The gpu is an XFX Double D Radeon HD 7850 and the psu is a Cooler Master i600.

The gpu has 2 6-pin outlets and the psu says it has 2 6-pin cords, but I only see one cord with multiple plugs along it, like knots on a rope. So yeah, I tried using two of the plugs from the same cord and now I'm the situation described above. Any thoughts?

They are. CPU can have 4 or 8 and the CPU can sometimes be mistaken as GPU so was covering that base.

That being said, I've never seen a PCI-E cable with more than 1 plug on it so the Cooler Master i600 is a bit of an oddball ... but in theory it should be fine.

Was this the first time powering on a new build?
Was the OS already installed?
Did you attempt to boot using onboard graphics and install drivers for the video card?

Ah, yeah it was the first attempt, and I had Windows installed on the hard drive beforehand. And no, I didn't try to install the drivers. Should I go ahead and try that?

In theory, plugging in a new GPU should work on basic windows drivers. You could attempt to install the correct drivers, but sometimes you can't install the AMD drivers if the card isn't installed ... hmm.

Fans on GPU spin up when power is turned on?
Fresh install of Windows or an install from a previous PC?

Windows from a previous PC, but I just did a fresh install and installed the motherboard drivers and unfortunately I'm getting the same result from the gpu. The fans are spinning, though.

Oh hey, so it turns out I'm just an idiot who didn't realize that I needed a DVI to VGA converter cable for my monitor. Everything's working now. Terribly sorry for the trouble, guys!
