I have a Dell Inspiron 560 that I want to connect to an HP L2201x monitor. The PC has VGA and HDMI outputs, but the monitor only has a standard DisplayPort input.

I researched possible solutions and learned from research that PCs with native DisplayPort outputs can be paired with DisplayPort-to-HDMI cables or converters, but PCs with native HDMI outputs (like mine) cannot do the opposite, meaning its not possible to do HDMI-to-DisplayPort.

I decided to look to see if I can install a new video card with a DisplayPort output. I am not as familiar with video cards as I am with other hardware so I am looking for help to find out what cards are compatible with my system. Here are some specifications for me PC:

Manufacturer: Dell

Model: Inspiron 560

Operating system: Windows 7 (64-bit)

Memory (RAM): 8GB DDR3

Motherboard: Dell 0K83V0 A00

Graphics: Intel GMA X4500 (Integrated)

Chipset: Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset Rev A03

Board Connectors:
• PCI 124-pin (x1)
• PCI Express X1 36-pin (x2)
• PCI express X16 164-pin (x1)
• PCI Express Revision 1.1

Power:
• DC power supply
• Wattage: 300W
• Maximum heat dissipation 1574 BTU/hr
• Input voltage 115/230 VAC
• Input frequency 50/60 Hz
• Rated output current 7/4 A

Based on my initial research, it appears there is some confusion about what is compatible. I've hear that PCIE 2.0+ cards are suppose to be compatible with 1.0 but that there are issues. I've also heard that my mobo should AT LEAST have 1.1 (which the Intel G43 does).

These are the cards I've been looking at:
• AMD Radeon HD6570
• AMD Radeon HD6670

Additionally, there appears to be some disagreement on whether the 300W is enough to power the above mentioned cards. They manufacturers websites for these cards suggested PSU wattage of 400W.

Are those card compatible?

What other video cards with DisplayPort output are compatible with my system??

Thanks!

Oh okay. I just looked up the specs on that card and it says system requirements are for a 450 W PSU. My system currently only has a 300 W PSU. :(

I had an additional detail I wanted to see if I could get some help with...

How can I find out if my BIOS supports PCI e 2.1?

I ended up getting a PCI e x 16 2.0 card and it works on my system. But I have read that 2.1 cards arent always compatible, not because of the PCI e port on the MoBo, but because the BIOS may need to be upgraded.

Any one know about this issue?
