neutron gtx vs ocz vertex 4

The 128 GB OCZ Vector is cheaper than the Vertex 4, but the Vector is their flagship drive at the moment. If you're going OCZ, go Vector. You even get Far Cry 3 for free with it.

Samsung 840 Pro is pretty much king of the hill for performance, but the OCZ Vector and a few other drives are pretty close to it. One of them is the Plextor M5Pro which seems to be the cheapest of those three, and thus also a good option.

As for reliability, I would in general say Samsung > Plextor = Corsair > OCZ

You will not notice any difference between them, Plextor M5P Xtreme is the highest quality SSD out. The Samsung 840 Pro has inconsistent writes but is very fast nonetheless and the Neutron with its LAMD controller is very consistent. I was going to buy the M5P but the 840 pro was on sale, no regrets.

I'm guessing the difference you are referring to is speed? That is a concern for me but of more interest is consistency and reliability. Reading the reviews of the OCZ it seems a good number of recent ones on Newegg have told of the drive dying within a years time. Some of the others talk of the need to update the firmware. I don't know if that's the reason for the dead drives and have also read on the same newegg reviewer pages what a hassle updating the firmware is. The OCZ vertex 4 claims the highest IOPs(?) time of 120,000. I'm not certain that's accurate. The current price of the OCZ is $10 less than the same sized Samsung 840 Pro. I'm also wondering if that Samsung price will go down when the company introduces its new line of EVO drives. I'm torn between the two for considerations of price, reliability and speed in that order of importance. How much more reliable is the Samsung and what is the benefit of its "toggle memory"?

You can't really rely on Newegg reviews, most people never go there to review their purchase, so you get a biased sample. You also can't rely too much on manufacturer specs, since they can be too optimistic at times, and at any rate don't cover all the aspects of SSD performance.

OCZ isn't known for the most reliable SSDs. They had a lot of problems with early Sandforce-based drives in particular. Samsung, on the other hand, has one of the best reputations for reliability.

The Samsung 840 Pro is still faster than the Samsung 840 Evo, which is an updated version of the cheaper basic 840. I wouldn't expect the Samsung 840 Pro to get much cheaper.
