Benefits of Hyperthreading while Multitasking?

So, I'm trying to do some research on building my first desktop, and I'm at the stage where I'm trying to read up on CPUs. One of the things I'm trying to decide is whether to get an i5 or i7. I plan to use this new PC for both new single-player games, and MMOs where there can be a lot of players on the screen at a time. Also, I might want to give video capture software a try too.

Now, the majority of what I've read has said that hyperthreading provides little to no benefit for gaming. However, I was just curious to know if hyperthreading would be beneficial, if I'm running other programs while I'm gaming, such as teamspeak, watching, a movie, and/or using video recording software.

I suppose what I'm asking is - how much multitasking would I need to do while gaming to make getting an i7 worth it?
