So I am planning on upgrading my very old CPU ( a old dual core E2200 2.2Ghz ) that has served me pretty well up untill now.

Now I have been doing some research about CPU's and I want a pretty decent one that won't force me to sell any organs on the black market to afford it.

I came up with the i5 2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3Ghz and the i5 3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4Ghz, both Quad cores and for about the same price.

I would like to know what the main differences are on them both and which one would be better for some High end gaming ( Battlefield 3 ect )

Also what issues I might come across since I hear the Ivy has some sort of fault where it overheats easily ? I could be wrong.

Any feedback would be highly appreciated also let me know if any more details are needed.

Something like an AsRock Z77 Extreme4, Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H or ASUS P8Z77-V LK is actually what I would recommend for a rig like this anyway, which comes in at you budget (at US prices anyway).

Going with any Z77 board from a good brand would be fine though, that will allow you to overclock.
Neither, go for Haswell. The i5-4670k is the equivalent to the 2500k/3570k.
Sandy is two years old now, and Ivy is a die shrink of Sandy Bridge architecture (along with IPC improvements). Haswell released recently and uses an all new CPU architecture and the same die size (22nm) as Ivy.

What? Haswell is only a SLIGHT improvement over Ivybridge.

I'm going to play the AMD card: Get an 8320/8350. Not only is it cheaper than intel's equivalent (i5 2500k), the motherboards are also cheaper. Factor in that the next generation of consoles will be optimized for eight cores and the PC-like architecture, you'd be better off getting an octo-core.

Well after Haswell will be in our countries stores soon the Ivy and Sandy have both gone down price wise quite a lot and that is why I am asking which one of the two to get, about AMD I do not know much about them and my experiences in the past with them have not been very good so will not be looking into that.

Also I won't be doing any major upgrading for the next 4 years again maybe, and I am trying to save as much cash as possible.

Could anyone please explain to me if the Ivy has any big heat issues when OC'ed, and how much better it may be in performance compared to the Sandy, also maybe what the IPC improvements in the Ivy would really mean compared to Sandy.

Sorry I am still a novice when it comes to computing, and I don't want to buy anything that will give me any issues or drama over the next 4 years.

Of the two, go for Ivy.
It does have temperature problems when overclocking compared to Sandy, but only once you really start ramping up voltage, typically only needed when going for 4.5Ghz + overclocks.
Clock for clock, Ivy outperforms Sandy by ~10%, which makes up for the fact it cant overclock as well IMO.

Ok nice, Ivy it is then, if you wouldn't mind, I will also need a new Mobo then ofc since mine is like out of the dark ages, know any good Mobo's that are good quality for a decent price ?

It will also have to be compatible with my 550ti Graphics Card ( it was on a very low price sale compared to the 560 and 460 )

Made some rough calculations converting the currencies, I would say anywhere between $100 - $130, I know it isn't as big of a budget but if I get the Ivy this will be the only budget I would have left.

I found a MSI Z68MA-ED55 B3 Motherboard for a bit cheaper then usual falling within that, any good or is there something better in this budget ?

I'll vote for IB 3570K and the ASRock Z77 Extreme 4, that's 1 of my workstations, I run it 24/7 at 4.7 with 32GB of Trident 2400, a pair of Sniper 120 SSDs in RAID 0. Just having it around and letting clients try it has led to sales of over 20 of near identical tigs (big exception being DRAM, 32GB is overkill for most users) and most lean towards 2133, though that's starting to move to 2400 as prices have come down

I feel like the Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 is a bit of a overkill for my current needs, the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H how ever seems very nice though and I think I am going with that, thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it.
