Is this a safe repair (Corsair HX1000W PSU)?

So I was transferring my hardware to a new case and I noticed something on my PSU (see title for make/model). It looked like, somehow I had managed to have some of the insulation on a 12V (yellow) wire on the 24-pin get stripped off. I am guessing sharp edges on my case.

I did some research and I looked closely at the problem, and the wire definitely as not cut, it was just a bit of insulation that had been stripped away. I don't know how long ago this was, but I am glad I caught it.

Some folks told me to cut the wire (which doesn't make sense, if I cut the wire and solder it back together and use heat shrink, haven't I just introduced more resistance by adding solder into the equation?) and solder it together and use heat shrink to patch it up.

Since the wire wasn't cut, I thought that I might get away with just using some good old Scotch/3M Super 33+ electrical tape. I have OCD and ended up doing this about 4 times. The last time I cut enough tape to go around the wire 3 times (since this is 18 AWG, that's about maybe an inch and a half) and I put a small zip tie over the center to prevent myself from messing with it any more.

I guess what I am asking, is this a safe repair or should I just kiss this PSU good bye? (I just got it at Christmas time!) I have removed it from my machine (I have some OK spares, a TX650W and a Antec 500U Basiq). Just looking for feedback. The black markings on the +5V is just adhesive from the tape, it tends to be messy.

Hi
This will be fine its what insulating tape is for.Its only 12v so no problems.
Also you are correct about not cutting it.

Thank you all. I used to work in a Electrical department at a Sears hardware store, so I learned a little there. I had to ask to get another set of eyes on the repair though, just because I am insecure about it.

I've seen some folks do some hacked up jobs when it comes to electrical tape and repairs, so I like to double check.

And now, a BAD electrical tape repair job!
