Hello , i had this problem with my CPU heating up and shutting down when it was solicitated , i resolved that with a couple of FANs , but now i have another problem i have a YouTube channel in what i post HD 720p videos daily and from some reason now i cannot render the entire video HD 720p or 1080p Full HD without my CPU slowly heating up until 86-90 degrees and shutting down :( , i mean this worked before and those FANs helped allot but when its time to render the PC shuts down :( , could it be my power supply and should i get rid of one of my FANs or what , please help i really need to start making videos again or i will get stuck with my YouTube channel .

My PC Specs are:
CPU : AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+ 2,4 ghz
GPU : Nvidia Gainward GeForce 9500 GT 128-bit 1GB
Motherboard: HP Nance
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 (2x 2GB slots)
PSU: 300W
Case Cooling:
A Spire CPU Cooler with stock tall radiator , a Arctic Cooling F8 case fan that blows air from outside to the CPU connected to a 3x3-pin to Molex adapter , a case fan mounted to the video card connected to de Molex adapter aswell , and a 80mm stock fan connected to the motherboard.
Please Help :| I really need to start recording.

Ok, also whilst you have your pc apart to reapply the thermal paste, clean out the insides. Getting rid of dust can help a lot if you have heat issues.

what heatsink have you got? Also, what are your ambient temps? an increase in ambient temps can be the difference of running to hot and running just fine. [strike]Also looking at the specs for your cpu, i see that you have overclocked, either turn it down to 2.8-3.0ghz or reset to stock.[/strike] Nvm, looks like you just made a mistake...

Hmm, i guess the only thing to try is reapplying the thermal paste.

Ow i´m sorry i mean 2,4 ghz it´s stock clock i didnt overclocked anything , i have the stock heatsink that comes with the pc is a preatty good and tall one aluminium i think (better than the one that came with the CPU Cooler Spire that i bought , mine´s 2 times taller ) i think my thermal paste got mad again and i should apply a new one , and yes my ambient temp is really hot i mean the room temp is just fine (but i run fine when i had 38 celsius on my room on winter rendering and playing games) . The case temp i think is hot not only beacause of the hardware but i have the PC enclosed in the desk , ok i mean on the sides he only haves a couple of inches space and on the back/front is open but there is some high temp. Now i dont know... i should buy some more FANs etc but till then i really need to RENDER , any ideas on how to fast improvise something ???

Yes i will re-apply new thermal paste , but i don´t have anymore and i can´t get one till tomorrow ...
And i´m short on time ...

Yes i know , thanks , i have this problem from yesterday and i cleaned all my FANs except PSU one ... i will try to use one of the FANs (the 80mm stock one that is the worst one i think) as an exhaust on the back of my PC if really works beacuse is near the the video card and video card FAN ... i´ll came back with more info . Is really interesting how the CPU can heat so much when rendering now i have 36-41 degrees but is a slow CPU soo , as said i´ll came back with more info after more testing.

Hi

The location of the case fans is not clear (front or rear)

I have one case fan at rear sucking air out, another at front sucking air in over hard disk.

The case side has a vent and there is a cone riveted to case side which allows the fan on cpu heat sink to blow hot air out the side of case.
(there is a mounting for optional additional fan to help extract hot air through the side)

You have to look at and optimise air flow in the case
look at location of fan on CPU heatsink
(move air vertically away from cpu (as per standard Intel design) or horizontally across heat sink)

If fan moves air in wrong direction it is worse than no fan

How long since heat sink fixed to CPU ?
what type of thermal paste was used ?

Experiment with rear fan sucking air out .

Try removing case side and using a fan to blow air in diagonally

There are a number of programs designed to let you know CPU temperature to see what is happening what one are you using?

AMD driver software has option to slow cpu down when it over heats to prevent reaching shutdown temperature.
better slower but complete the job than crash, ( has this been installed or disabled?.)

http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/cool-n-quiet/Pages/cool-n-quiet.aspx

This would happen with most Intel systems

A lot of other posts arrived before mine
I see you have the CPU in furniture this does not help

regards

I use CoreTemp to see my CPU temp , as for thermal paste i used copper based one i don´t know the name because it wasn´t mine . The CPU Fan is blowing the air vertically threw the side of the case that has some small round gaps some sort like a 140mm could be mounted there and the case doesn´t have that cone protection (and if matters my PC open on the right side and on the left side is the motherboard with all the components) ; i have a 90mm FAN mounted on the radiator of the video card that is blowing air on it taking some air from the PSU that is blowing the air outside the case.
An Arctic Cooling F8 FAN is blowing air from the back to the CPU , and upper right in the middle between the PSU and video card where the PCI slots are is a 80mm FAN i just mounted to blow air outside . I will upload a picture in a moment to show you guys how this looks like ... PICTURE HERE: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/407/fanheatschheme.png/

Sorry for double-posting . But here´s the Image the red line representing Heat and the Blue one Cold Air i hope.

I will re-apply some thermal paste today , i hope this FIXES my problem , i´ll come later with more feedback.

Yes i changed thermal compound and i cleaned the heatsink , i have a 80mm FAN on the back as exhaust , in the morning i was able to render one HD video , the temp reached like 70 or so but the PC didn´t shut down , it was good , to be more sure i´ll try to render tonight a new video and i will come with more feedback.

I re-applyed thermal paste and everything worked fine , i was able to render videos again the maximum temp. was like 79 - 80 but without shutdowns. Now 1-2 days after that when i was trying to render the CPU got hot again and reached more than 86c and turned off again in the rendering like 50 - 80 % depending (and i render a maximum of 2min video in 720p HD avi format) . Now i think asa a cooling solution i should buy some really good thermal paste like a MX-5 (i have some copper based one and my heatsink has aluminium) and a good CPU Cooler to prevent shutdowns , also i think the CPU is hot because the case temp gets hotter due to video card heating too , my video card gets really hot i have a Gainward 9500 GT that has a heatsink grill and i mounted a fan to it should i re-apply some thermal paste on the GPU too and put a better FAN on it ? And can i use the same CPU thermal compund for GPU aswell ? please help... it gets very irritating .
