Hello, i have question that has been torturing me for while, i want to upgrade my system, it is very old and weak (c2d e6600+ hd4870), but the PSU is pretty solid:

There is only one problem: it only has two 6 pin pci-e connectors and i want to buy GPU that requires 1x6pin and 1x8pin. So my question is that is it safe and proper to use 6pin to 8pin adapter with this PSU or i have to buy new PSU?

THX very much for help, JN.

Think about it as putting a splitter onto a garden hose. You get two streams, but its still the same amount of water entering the hose, which means you get less water pressure coming out the end of the two hoses than using just one. Using the molex is like using two seperate hoses on their own spigot instead of the splitter. You get the full amount of power, instead of diluting it.

Thank you guys you have all been very helpfull, I just have one more Q to ask: If I decide to go for sapphire HD7950 vapor-x wich has 2x8 pin connectors, and i want to overclock it as much as possible, will this PSU still be sufficient, and if it will, what solution you reccomend?

Sorry for being such a pain in the a**:)
