I have this computer HPE-170F
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883147092

Currently running 2 monitors, but I want to expand it for work and stock trading to 6 monitors.

Would a visiontek 900614 Radeon HD 7750 eyefinity work if I switch out my graphics card for it?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129274

I don't understand these miniports either, all my monitors will be HDMI compatible so should I just get the miniport to hdmi adapters and it will work digitally still?

Thanks

Thanks Brute, I was worried about the power supply. Its 460watt and all the other eyefinity 6 cards seem to want over 500w but this card for some reason.

2 questions:
Do you think its a better card than the one I have if I just want to play a game on 1 monitor when I'm not working on 6?
GPU/VPU TypeNVIDIA GeForce GTX 260Graphics InterfacePCI Express 2.0 x16 this is what I currently have.

Also, I want to run 6 23" monitors will they all be in hdmi digital then if I buy the adapters or is it vga or something like that?

Thanks!

One more question: is there a better card that can run 6 monitors for my rig? Recommendations? I just picked that one because it looked like it would work with the power consumption (which I don't understand why its so much lower than the other eyefinity 6's)

The card is not really designed for gaming, just to power 6 monitors. theoretically the 7750 will be less capable in games than the GTX 260 but there are no games benchmarks to compare since the cards are from different eras.

Did you consider upgrading your PSU and get something more decent? (check if you have a standard ATX PSU)

Thanks _Brute_Force_, that advice will save me some trouble since I game daily. It is a standard atx midtower case I have so please let me know if you think this will be a good gaming upgrade and still be able to run 6 23" monitors for work. My computer runs everything ok still, I wouldn't mind running Company of Heroes 2 in higher resolution though.

Specs of computer, too old/outdated? I kind of want to keep all my old files and such.

Here is a 6 monitor card I found requires a 500w PSU, is this an upgrade from my old card?

Will this power supply work with it?

Thanks buddy!

Your computer is still very capable, most ppl who have a 920 processor still hold on to it, upgrading to current i7 is ~10-20% which disappear if you start overclocking it. However I would like to suggest an aftermarket cooler for it even if your don't want to overclock it, it will perform better and run cooler.

As for the PSU, a very decent one,i t should be able to handle any single graphics card you throw at it.

which brings me to my next suggestion, it seems a bit crazy to me to own 6 monitors and game on only one, why not game on all 6 ;)

I'm assuming you will install them in this config

this resolution would be 1920x3 x 1080x2 = 5760x2160

Why not invest a bit more and get a 7970! preferably a model with lots of VRAM that can handle this res and also very important to check the card's length and make sure it will fit in your case.

Just thought if you are going to spend that much money, might aswell make it worth your while.

I probably would game on all 6, but work on 6 is important too. I don't think the 7970 has 6 slots, am I wrong? I was reading there is a way but no one seems to know how. I'd rather get a 6 monitor one that I can use right away without complicated splitters etc. Thanks!

Gaming on triple monitors is a big task, requiring a lot of graphics horsepower which basically means you need multiple cards. To game on 6 monitors, can easily see you needing Dual or Tri SLI/Crossfire to achieve playable settings.

Just because a card can support six displays doesn't mean it can drive them.

If I were in your position, I would (after rolling around in my pile of money :D) go with dual or triple GTX780's. That would be your best bet at getting playable frames at 5760x2160 (To put that in context, thats 1.5x 4K resolution, which is massive).
The reason for 780's over 7970's, currently Crossfire has some pretty bad issues with Framerating, and the GK1101 GPU in the 780 is just outright stronger.

I'll probably just game on 1 monitor, and use 6 for work so I think this one will do:

I'm almost there and ready to order it, but does anyone know which power supply would fit my case and run this card with my rig? I built a computer like 12 years ago and I screwed up the power supply size for the setup. Thanks!

Thanks for the case recommendation, do you think my usb ports on the front of that that are kind of top and middle will fit?

I have some SD slots on the top of my HP, can I move those if I get a new case?

the usb ports at front uses the motherboard usb header, plug the new case connection in the header and front USB will work. tho not sure how the SD ports are connected, you might need to take it physically of the old case and put it in the new one.

Something I would like to add is, when it comes to an upgrade set some limits, we started with a 7750, jumped to 7870 and a PSU and before you know it we are talking about PSU, Case and more than one 7970 (which i'm not sure if the motherboard can handle them)

remember there are always middle ground, you don't have to play at the full res, half of it would be smooth and not as noticable since you are playing ON FREAKIN 6 MONITORS.

So take the time to think about it and decide the best use of your money!

True, budget allows it but i really just want ease of use to set this up. Id like to just plug it into my old case. Just need to game on one monitor as good as the old card and use 6 monitors for stock trading and other work. Im so rusty at setting this stuff up, havent done it in forever

technically, your current PSU should be able to power the 7870 since it doesn't really require more watts than the GTX 260.

just make sure it has 2x6 pin connections, and this should be the easiest switch you can get.
