Skyrim keeps crashing to the desktop without any messages or warnings. While it's unpredictable exactly when it will happen, I have noticed that every time it crashes, it's when I'm pressing the "R" key on my keyboard. You know, times such as when I'm drawing/sheathing a weapon, taking every item from a container, or making/improving/enchanting items. Any idea why this could be?
For clarification, it doesn't happen every time I press "R," nor does it seem to happen at any particular time or when doing a particular thing. Attempting to recreate the problem by repeatedly pressing "R" over and over again doesn't seem to cause it to happen; it's pretty much when I least expect it.
Have you downloaded and installed all your latest drivers and the latest skyrim patches if there are any?
Also go into msconfig and disable unwanted programs so there isn't a heap of stuff running.
I tried going into MSConfig and disabling some stuff; so far, the CTD has yet to occur, but then again, it's entirely unpredictable, and I've only played Skyrim once after applying your advice. As far as I can tell, my drivers are all up to date.
One thing I have noticed recently, is I get a lot of crashes that are followed by a loss of connection to Steam, when playing Skyrim.
There is no loss of connection to Steam; if it wasn't clear before, the crash always occurs simultaneously with pressing the "R" key when it happens. That is, the game doesn't crash every time I press "R," but when it does, it's always the moment the "R" key is pressed. I doubt it has anything to do with mods... I'll post my mod list later just in case, but I can't right now, 'cause I'm in a bit of a hurry.
