Hi i have a XGR 500watt eXtreme Power psu & I'm wondering whether it will be enough to power a EVGA GTX 460 768mb ver. also to note: the psu only has 1 pcie 6-pin connector.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You're fortunate it hasn't done anything obvious to your PC. It's very possible that your components have been slightly damaged due to the poor ripple protection and voltage regulation that's typical with fly-by-night fireboxes, but at least nothing's been completely fried yet.

It'll be even more expensive to replace your motherboard or CPU! The PSU you're using sells for 156 rand which is about $15. There's no safe PSU in existence that sells for $15 - the parts that make the PSU safe make that price impossible. And if PSUs are *more* expensive in South Africa than the comparable PSU in American stores, you can imagine how much worse this PSU might be.

If I might ask, why are you replacing a 550ti with a 460 768? That's a sidegrade.

I'm Actually giving the 550Ti to my cousin so i can gain on the 460 i guess. But il just stick with the Gtx 550Ti and save for a better PSU. Will work best in the long run

Oh and you dont get it man, for eg the psu i saw he other day was one like this :: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004

thats roughly R800 if converted to Rands, but i saw the same one for R1500 on special so WTH!! thats more or less $160..

Your cousin may not be happy with me, but keeping the GPU and working on a better PSU is a better idea. Then you'll have a proper PSU that you can keep and use for years.

comx-computers.co.za does have Corsairs and XFXs in the 600-700R range. More expensive than in the US, but it beats trying to make, say, recommendations for Malta, in which even these quality budget-mid PSUs can top $100 in US fairly easily.
