You can try, but wouldn't have high hopes the sticks you have and the 8GB stick are going to have different advanced timings which won't mesh well. They might work, but wouldn't count on it - on the other hand, since you have it in hand, give it a try, at worse in this scenario it won't boot and will reset the BIOS - which can mess up a RAID if you have one, so jot down your BIOS settings for fallback, just in case

Yes probably safe to assume you don't ;) A RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is when you take 2 or more individual harddrives or SSDs and ineffect combine them to run as a single disk, which greatly increases your disk throuput in read and writes as two are working as one with the data split between the physical disks. Best bet on your question would be to test it - a simple quick way is take the system as is go to START, ALL programs, Accessories, then right click on Command Prompy, chose Run as Administrator, and in the DOS box type WINSAT MEM and hit enter, this will provide you with a measurement of how well the DRAM is running, then pulle the sticks install the 8GB stick and do the same - then compare. From there you can either decide or can run the system with both configs, have a feeling the three sticks may make you happier as they should be running in triple channel - but you never know ;)
