hi, I'm running a intel core i7 2600k 3.4ghz
I have a 120mm liquid cooler.

I've been having problems with my computer restarting while playing games.

my cpu is currently running at 79c idle.

guaranteed your problem is contact between the block and your cpu. did u install it? did u put thermal paste? at idle? thats crazy hot for idle. should be like 30's or 40's at idle...max.

For your CPU to idle at 79C, then surely your CPU cooler is not attached fully and needs to be reseated properly. When you are gaming, your CPU must be going over the threshold temperature and causing the computer to either shut down or throttle down to maintain cooler temps.

So do check to make sure the cooler is attached properly and then likely your idle temps will be in the low 30's and no where near 79C unless under Overclocked load.

Hope that helps.

so I remounted and repasted yesterday with no results.

today however when running cpuid hardware monitor, idle running 80c average. running a not so hardware intense game, last remnant, my cpu dropped to an average of 43c. quitting the game immediately made my cpu go back up to 80c.

I then ran witcher 2, windowed with ultra settings. hardware monitor read the temps at 53c-65c average while playing

there is something wrong with your temp monitor. all this means is never trust the reported temp. Keep that in mind for the future.

i know you said at idle but what is your idle frequency by chance. does it throttle down to like 1.6ghz and that is where you get 80C, or does it stay up near peak like in my case 4.7ghz? if its the latter you may want to check the processes that are running like BOINC, Folding, or worse yet a virus.
