Partition Transfer to New SSD

Hello I'm sure this question has been asked but I couldn't find an answer I could trust.

My computer works great! After cleaning it I decided I should buy an SSD so I could get it running better and here's the catch.

My current HDD is partitioned. C:\\ system files and D:\\ the good stuff. I'd like to "clone" my C:\\ partition over to the new SSD, then delete it and expand the D:\\ partition to take up my entire HDD.

I'd like to do this without A) copying the information from my D:\\ partition to another drive first, or B) losing all of my stuff.

I'm not completely retarded so should I be able to get this accomplished?

Also, I'd like to note, my main concern is to be able to delete the boot partition. I know it's regularly locked, so how exactly would I be able to wipe that without wiping the entire HDD?

Thanks guys :)

Solution
Id disconnect the HD and install fresh to the SSD ... that leaves ya old Windows install on the HD available in case SSD goes south.

Just install programs over themselves on D:\ and they will work on both boots

My current C: is 300Gb, the HDD all together is 2Tb, and the new SSD would be 500Gb.

I wouldn't mind a fresh install. I'm really mostly worried about removing that C: partition from the HDD once I don't need it anymore :)

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Ok, that makes sense. I think I'll do that :) I'll just leave the system as a backup. Thanks guys!

But while we're at it... is it possible to remove that C:\ System partition from the HDD (without wiping entire HDD) once I have the SDD set up?

Yes. You can wipe just that partition, after you have the OS installed on the SSD.
