I was wondering if this is a good build for any type of a gaming computer. Total comes down to 864 including shipping and tax. Was wondering if there was any way to bring it down to 500-700 and upgrade the parts later on.

I know it's only $10 cheaper, but this is better than what you have :)

It depends on what you are willing to part with. Here are some cost cuts:

Case: NZXT Source 210 ($30)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146102
$80 seems like a lot to spend on a mid tower case I got a NZXT Phantom for that price
(I am not an NZXT fanboy but they do make some good and inexpensive cases)

PSU: 730W seems like a lot if you are not liquid cooling or using more than one graphics card.
If you are not seriously planning on using more than one graphics card or liquid cooling you could get a much cheaper PSU.

Graphics Card: Radeon 7870's are comparable to the 660 and slightly cheaper, and you could always go a step down to the 650ti or 7850 and save almost $100 there.

RAM: You can get cheaper memory, unless you are hardcore overclocking you don't need a heatsink. A good 8GB should run you about $50.

Thanks for the responses.

so with this

EVGA SSC 01G-P4-3652-KR GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB decreased to 766
Team Xtreem Dark Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) decreased to 734

Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W ATX12V and NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case decreased to 698.

any other suggestions?

Well you made it to bellow $700, but if you want to push it, consider:

MOBO:MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
It is comparable to the ASRock 970 Extreme but slightly cheaper

Get rid of the 200mm Case fan, however if you are gaming you are going to need an CPU cooler/heatsink, the ones that come with the cpu are rubbish.

LOGISYS Computer AC2200 92mm Hydro CPU Cooler is cheap and comes with good reviews.

I think this is the best for the money you can get for the AM3+ socket type/ mid tower atx gaming pc.
Any cheaper would diminish quality.

And if you really wanted to cut some more you can consider going to micro-atx, etc. using the AMD Phenom II with the AM3 socket type, but this would leave you little to upgrade in the future.
