Just Bought a new EVGA Superclocked GTX 770...is there something I need to do before installing it?

Hey everyone,

I'm upgrading my GPU from a Sapphire Toxic 2GB 6950 to a EVGA Superclocked 2GB GTX 770. Just ordered it on newegg and its on its way :D!

But I was wondering if there was anything that I needed to do or install first before the new card works. Like updating bios firmware? or installing something else?...

As i've said in another post I've made, I'm competent enough to build my own computer but it doesn't necessarily mean I understand why everything works.

So any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k 3.3ghz (not overclocked)

Mobo: MSI Z68A-GD55 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

RAM: G.SKILL Sniper Low Voltage Series 16GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Hard Drive: Crucial M4 128GB SATA III SSD

1TB Seagate Storage Drive

As has been said it is ESSENTIAL to FULLY remove all the existing drivers, AMD and Nvidia software do not like each other. At all.
Before installing the shiny new card, go to the Nvidia site and download their latest WHQL drivers, install them when you boot up with the new card and, a has been said, do n't let Windows install anything when you first boot.
Tried to overclock my 6950, did n't work too well either so you're not alone.
Do n't be too remorseful, you've just bought one of the best cards out there ;).

As mentioned:

Manually remove all the AMD associated drivers.

After removal:

Install new drivers, you can first do that when you have installed the GTX 770 in its PCI-E slot and connected it to the PSU. The drivers will then detect your GPU and you can now install the proper drivers for your GPU.

1. Yes, uninstall the AMD drivers, shutdown machine and switch cards. Then boot to windows and dont let Windows install anything. Then install the latest driver from nVidia

2. Can't speak specifically to the GTX 770 but note that with the 5xx and 6xx, the SC series had pretty weak VRM's as compared tot he Gigabyte, Asus, MSI cards so might wanna go easy on the overclocking

aww...I'm getting a hint of buyer's remorse! I didnt know that about the SC series... but part of the reason I chose the SC version, is because I prob won't be doing any overclocking. I tried on my Sapphire Toxic 6950, which was supposed to be the easiest thing to overclock with the manual bios switch on the card, and that still somehow blew up in my face (not literally).

actually i got my gtx 770 in the mail today. I had a gtx 680 but am going to use that in another computer. The GTX 770 won't boot though. I have tried several things but can't get this card to boot up to the windows screen. I have to put my gtx 680 back in the computer and everything works fine. I might be returning nvidia this year and going with AMD because of this. their is no reason to have to fool around with your bios for a video card.

i have an xfx 850w power supply, assasin 2 mother board, 16 gb corsair vengeance ram, and any video card but the 770 will apparently work in my rig.

I sorta had the same problem. Make sure the 6pin and 8pin power connecters are connected. Then connect your moniter to your motherboard instead of graphics card. if it works then then just install the new drivers that came with the cd in the box. if it doesnt work try plugging the moniter in the graphics card. If it doesnt work then, then im really sorry there's nothing else i know :(
