Should i defrag my game? it's on an SSD

hey i was gonna use Game Fire to defrag my Skyim. it is on an SSD. so should i not defrag it? i know ssda shouldn't be defrag'd. Steam did not prompt a defrag. i just used Gamebooster ages ago to defrag fallout (not on ssd) and it helped so was thinking of doing it for skyrim

No. You don't defrag a SSD for any reason. Trim takes care of the drive if it's enabled, which it should be, if you're on Windows 7 or 8.

well i was not gonna defrag the ssd, just the game. or does it do the whole drive? if so, that doesn't really make sense since the gaming defrag programs (Gamebooster, Gamefire, even STEAM has a defrag per game utility) make you choose and navigate to the particular game u wanna defrag. so i would think u are NOT defragging the whole drive

The SSD does not read information from a spinning platter with an head like a mechanical drive. Therefore no information is fragmented on an SSD. Since an SSD can not be fragmented there is no reason to defrag an SSD or any files or part of an SSD.

All defragging does is put information together where it can be read faster by the head of a spinning hard drive. Think of it like an old record player. A fragmented drive would have parts of the song all over the record. Defragging would consolidate the information back together so the head could play the song with no pauses when searching for information.

An SSD reads the entire disk at once. No spinning platter and no head. So It can not be fragmented.

The only difference you will see is shortening the lifespan of your SSD.

well again, i just figured i'd be defragging just that 1 game, and not the entire ssd. why does it ask which game to defrag if it's gonna do the whole ssd?

Dude. No offense but are you just dense or what? The way an SSD works defragging does not help anything! The game does not need to be defragged on an SSD. The whole SSD, a file on an SSD, a game on an SSD it does not matter one bit.

Try this since you don't seem to be able to grasp this concept. Run 10 different benchmarks on your game. Then by all means defrag away. Now run those 10 benchmarks again. You know how much they will change? 0%. Not 1% or 2% but 0%. All defragging does is shorten the life of the SSD. Yes even defragging one file or one game and not the whole drive.

Not to mention, game booster, gamefire, and all software like it are nothing but snake oil.
