Hey guys,
this is my GPU: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/35101-xfx-radeon-hd-5770-1gb-single-slot-review-5.html

I have a new 17" VGA monitor and I want to use it as a third monitor in my setup in eyefinity. What do I need? The only port remaining on my 5770 is the mini-DisplayPort... I've been told that I need an ACTIVE adapter of some sort with a USB connection to power it... but this was all I could find:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-DisplayPort-Video-Adapter-Converter/dp/B0031SEMBQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1370821177&sr=1-2&keywords=mini+displayport+to+vga

Will the adapter above work? Or will it not work because it requires power? Or something?

Will I just be better off getting rid of the 5770 and replacing it with this 7750 with 2 x DVI and 1 x VGA ports?

Thanks

The Radeon HD 5770 / 6770 / 7750 have the same performance and they are pretty bad for Eyefinity.

17" monitors are typically 1280x1024 resolution. Three of them means the HD 5770 will have to push 3.9 million pixels. That close to how many pixels there are in a 2560x1600; which has just shy of 4.1 million pixels. The GPU also seems to have only 1GB of RAM and that can be a drag on performance for a 2560x1600 resolution set up you want at least 2GB.

Take a look at the following review of the Radeon HD 7750, specifically at the highest resolution. As stated, the Radeon HD 5770 / 6770 / 7750 basically provides the same level of performance. The review maxes out all the graphics so dropping them to medium or low will improve performance. The test rig also has an Intel Core i7-3770K @ 4.6 GHz which means for CPU intensive games your performance will be lower unless you have the same CPU with the same overclock.

When you say that all three monitors have to be the same specs, do you mean the same size & max resolution? Like 17" 1440x900? Surely one can't be expected to have 3 of exactly the same monitor?

Tbh I'll barely be using eyefinity in games but I definitely see where you're coming from. I'll use it sometimes in Eurotruck Simulator and perhaps in the odd game of Battlefield but that's it. I know my 5770 will struggle but I don't play games that much. The three monitors for Uni work is what I'm more interested in. Thanks for the info though!
